A Call to Action for Language Access

A Call to Action for Language Access

I came to this country needing a voice, someone to help me navigate a new language, a new life. I was lucky; I found that support. Today, as the owner of Kaplan Interpreting Services, I’m fighting to ensure millions of others don’t lose theirs. The March 1 Executive Order may have changed the rules, stripping away decades of language access protections, but it hasn’t changed our resolve. Language access isn’t a luxury, it’s a right. Here’s how we can keep it alive, together.

The Real Impact of Losing Language Access

This hits home for me. As an immigrant, I’ve felt the panic of not being understood. As an interpreter, I’ve seen the relief when someone finally is. The EO’s push for English-only policies, and the potential rise of AI over human interpreters, threatens that relief for LEP communities. But we’re not powerless. We can advocate, write to policymakers, demand enforcement of existing laws like Title VI, and support organizations that prioritize human connection. At Kaplan, we’re doubling down on training interpreters who don’t just translate but truly listen.

What You Can Do, Starting Today

You can help, too. If you’re a healthcare provider, legal professional, or business owner, partner with us to ensure your clients get the clarity they deserve. If you’ve relied on an interpreter, share your story, raise awareness about the human cost of these changes. We’re here to consult, to interpret, to fight for what’s right. Because when language access erodes, it’s not just policy that crumbles, it’s fairness, trust, and lives.

Let’s Keep the Conversation Going

Let’s talk, because fairness shouldn’t get lost in translation. Drop us a line, join the conversation, or reach out for a consultation. Together, we can make sure every voice is heard. What’s one step you’d take to protect language access today?

Alexandra Kaplan

CEO & Founder

Born in Dallas, Texas, Alexandra grew up surrounded by Spanish, English, Arabic, and Italian. After moving to Venezuela, Spanish became her primary language. She holds a Master's in Healthcare Administration from Washington University in St. Louis and is a California court certified and medical interpreter.

She founded Kaplan Interpreting Services after seeing an industry that treated interpreters as interchangeable and clients as ticket numbers. She built a protocol-driven operation where every interpreter is hand-selected and credentialed for the specific setting, every client has a dedicated point of contact, and risk management is built into every assignment.

Her career reached a historic milestone when she interpreted the conversation between President-elect Biden and Pope Francis. That assignment, along with engagements for Nike and the Summit of the Americas, set the standard for every client engagement that followed.

"The same protocols that protected that historic conversation now protect every assignment we handle."
